Lares to machupicchu 3 days


This trek (Quishuarani to Yanahuara Route) takes us into the Lares region of the Peruvian Andes, passing green valleys, tranquil mountain lakes and high passes, with breathtaking views of snow-capped Andean peaks rising to just under 6,000 meters. Our route takes us through many small village communities that offer a rare & fascinating insight into traditional Andean life. Finally we make our way by train to Aguas Calientes and continue on to Machu-Picchu, the legendary Lost City of the Incas. We have plenty of time to explore this renowned and fascinating site, climb to Huayna Picchu, walk to Sun-Gate etc.

DAY 01: Cusco – Urubamba – Pumahuanca Valley – P´acchayoq

Our private bus leaves Cusco at 05.45am for a scenic drive through the Sacred Valley, passing through Chincheros and stopping in the town of Urubamba, (2,700 masl) for a brief toilet break and the chance to buy any last minute snacks, water, etc, Small packed breakfast is served here. Departing Urubamba around 07:15, we have a further 20 minutes drive to the beginning of the Pumahuanca Valley, land of the famous white corn crops and the Chicha, the Inca´s favorite corn beer. This is the place where we will meet our horses and handlers, (arrieros), and trek staff. All of our required equipment will be carried by mules and horses. We commence our hike through this beautiful polylepis qeuñas Valley in the Andes with a gentle switchback ascent on a gravel path from 2,850 mt to 3,600 mt with stunning views of the surrounding valley and mountains. 4 hours walk to the Inca complex of Inca–Kancha for a guided visit, and where we stop for our first lunch. Our expert cook will indulge you with delicious Peruvian dishes. Time to relax or a little nap, Continuing afterward along the way you will be able to observe native trees of qeuñas, eucaliptus, then we reach a small Andean community of P´accha, spectacular mountain landscapes, herds of llamas, alpacas, sheeps and goats. Then final 2 hours further we will reach a series of small waterfalls and beautiful campsite named Cuyoc, .. our first campsite at 3,950 masl.

DAY 02: Cuyoc – Pumahuanca Pass – Cuncani Campsite

Early wake up at 06:00 am with a cup of coca leaf tea, then a good breakfast with quinua panqueques. At 07:00 am we recommence our trek with scenic views of Chicon, San Juan and Veronica mountains. Surrounded by a native forest for a challenging 5 hours climb along a dirt road with some stone steps, in some parts there are zig zag switchbacks toward the Pumahuanca Pass located at 4,740 masl (A sacred Apacheta is a series of piled stones, made by pilgrims as a symbol of gratitude and respect to the Apus), Once we get to the pass we honor the top of this mountain with coca leaves as is the local customs. Enjoy the amazing views of part of Moray, Maras and Salineras. Then we are ready to descend for an hour along a stone road with a nice view on both sides, arriving to enjoy lunch near impressive lakes by which we rest. After our lunch we walk for 2 more hours mainly dowhill and enroute we will meet some local campesinos (people of the local village) in colorful costumes as is traditional with all villages around Lares. Impressive landscape views, mountains, flocks of llamas and alpacas. Cuncani is the major district in the area. Campsite at Cuncani community, located at 3,700 masl where we enjoy Dinner and Camp. Cuncani is also very famous for their textiles produced with ancestral weaving techniques; weavers will offer their work

DAY 03: guas Calientes 2100 masl – Machupicchu 2400 masl – Ollantaytambo – Cusco 3400 masl.

Early breakfast (05.00am) before taking the 5.30am bus directly to Machupicchu arriving around 06.00am. **Optional for those still able/wanting to walk!: leave 04.30am and walk up to Machupicchu arriving approx 06.00am but only if you really want to hike in the dark so have torches but remember you do not get into Machu Picchu earlier than people who take the bus as they also arrive around 6am to the entrance with the guide. 

In Machupicchu it is still a 15 minute walk from the drop-off point to the famous views from the South Zone of the farming terraces at the end of the Inca trail. Enjoy the early tour of Machupicchu with your guide who will unfold the mysteries of this magical site, showing you the very best of it! Your guide will spend about 2 hours relating to you interesting and amazing stories, explaining temples and special sectors. Your tour of Machupicchu should finish between 10 and 10:30am then you have free time to take your photos before the 10:30 crowds arrive. 
If you want the opportunity to climb Huayna Picchu you must indicate this at the time of booking so we can add the $10 fee and get the permit well in advance .
Otherwise the Inca bridge or Sun´s gate are other good walks in that order!. We provide a Buffet lunch in Aguas Calientes after the walk down from Machupicchu. If you prefer a box lunch to have in Machupicchu you must sign up for it in the office before your trek.

 HUAYNA PICCHU MOUNTAIN WALK.- This walk to the mountain Huaynapicchu after your guided tour in Machupicchu, it takes 2 hours Ticket is included for people who book in advance and permits are available.

  To guarantee Huayna Picchu permits you need to pay for your booking at least 1 month in advance.

  TRAVEL INSURANCE: We recommend you to obtain a personal Travel Insurance, including Medical Problems, Baggage loss or damage. If you need help to find a travel Insurance Company please let us know.

  • Please note that the program deposit is non-refundable. The deposit is used to purchase the space within the group and once a space is purchased it cannot be resold.

MACAW ADVENTURE will not give any refunds if a participant decides to cancel the trip prior to departure or during the trip (except from the entrances to the archaeological sites and the bus/train tickets)

  • If MACAW ADVENTURE doesn’t confirm the reservation, your payment will be refunded totally.
  • All participants have to carry their own back packs, including sleeping bag and mattresses unless they booked an extra porter or the service includes porters, horsemen or mules.
  • A participant must declare if he/she has any sickness or medical disorder and must bring his/her own medicines.
  • All participants must bring their original passport and, if available, their original student card ´ISIC´.
  • It is compulsory that all clients have personal travel insurance. This insurance must cover personal accident, medical expenses, loss of effects and all other expenses which might arise as a result of loss, damage or injury occurring to the client. MACAW ADVENTURE cannot be accounted for any accident or loss of personal belongings the customer caused by his/her own.
  • In case force majeure occurs, like impossibility to operate the program or trek due to unusual or unforeseen circumstances outside macaw adventure's control like: extreme weather conditions, landslides, strikes not allowing operation or putting it at risk, sudden inaccessibility of route, etc. MACAW ADVENTURE will propose viable solutions to operate the program within the available dates, or if impossible, will then propose an alternative program. If the alternative program chosen by the client is of lower value than that originally booked then the client is entitled to a refund of the price difference. All costs derived will be at the expense of the client. In case none of these would be feasible, MACAW ADVENTURE would refund all the money paid except all the incurred expenses so far.
